Hierarchical Searchv1.0.2

Overview

The XGI Hierarchical Search Scripting Extension adds a versatile set of methods to your project for performing advanced searches with respect to the scene hierarchy.

Usage

These methods are best NOT used in loops, Update, LateUpdate, FixedUpdate or any other frequently repeating blocks of code. Since the underlying code iterates through all the relevant Objects in the scene until the result(s) are found, it is good practice to only use the methods during initialization, loading or other infrequent events.

Before you use the extension

You must know, what are -
  1. Child: A GameObject which is one level below a GameObject in the hierarchy.
  2. Descendant: A GameObject which is one or more levels below a GameObject in the hierarchy.
  3. Root: A GameObject which is at the top in the hierarchy.

What can this extension do?

There are methods available in this extension to perform the following operations -
  1. Fetch all the Children or all the Descendants of a GameObject.
  2. Query GameObject(s) or Component(s) among Children or Descendants of a GameObject by name.
  3. Get the root or a Component on the root relative to a GameObject.
  4. Get all the roots or all the Components of a specific type on the roots.
  5. Search for GameObject(s) or Component(s) in a scene other than the active scene.
